The story behind this design
The pattern is built from stacked rows of chevrons, dots and short dashes, the mark-making vocabulary of woven and printed West African cloth. Warm ochre, rust and black carry it, with the rhythm changing row to row so the eye keeps moving around the cup. At 10 oz there is just enough surface for three or four full bands.
