The story behind this design
Nothing in this design competes with the dates. Each month sits in its own soft sand-colored block, the type is small and evenly spaced, and there is no illustration at all beyond a thin arc at the top. The palette is the warm end of neutral, closer to oatmeal than grey, which keeps it from reading as clinical.
