The story behind this design

The beagle is drawn head-on with its ears hanging forward and its brow creased, the expression the breed wears when it has found a scent. Nothing is exaggerated into caricature; the proportions are accurate, which is what makes it read as somebody's actual dog. Tan, white and a soft black give the markings, and on the Heather Cement shirt the white of the muzzle nearly disappears.
