The joke rests on the flag-planting pose, which everyone already recognises, so the astronaut is drawn as close to the archival photograph as possible — same stance, same angle of the pole, same slightly awkward tilt. Only the flag has been changed. Putting it on navy and black rather than white was deliberate too: a moon scene needs a dark ground, and the curved horizon reads as a horizon only when the sky behind it is genuinely dark.
