The story behind this design
Art deco is built on the fan, the sunburst and the stepped chevron, and this pattern uses all three at different scales so the eye finds structure at both arm's length and close up. The palette is held to capri blue and white, which is closer to a 1930s tile floor than to the gold-and-black version of deco. The repeat is aligned to run straight down the placket rather than across it.
