The story behind this design
Asparagus is a difficult subject because a single spear is almost a straight line. Bundling them solved it: the twine gives the composition a waist, the spears splay at both ends, and the shadows between them do the drawing. The greens shift from near-white at the cut base through to a bruised violet at the tip, which is exactly the gradient a real spear carries and is the only reason this print needs more than one color.
