The story behind this design
Roses at this scale can overwhelm a room, so the blooms here are drawn at full size but kept to a narrow autumn range, with the deepest reds pulled toward brick and the leaves toward olive. The composition is built outward from one corner rather than centred, which means the pattern still works when the pillow is dropped on the floor at any angle. The tufting points were considered in the drawing, so no bloom is cut through at its centre.
