The story behind this design
These are meadow flowers past their best: seed heads, dried stems, a few blooms still holding on. Drawing them at the end of their season rather than at the peak is what gives the towel its brown-gold cast instead of a summer brightness. The stems cross each other at irregular angles, as if the bunch had been laid down rather than arranged, and the ground is left pale so the whole thing stays light in a dim kitchen.
