The story behind this design
The rose is rendered close-up and full-bloom, petals opening from a dense center, and the whole flower is pushed towards black so only the petal edges catch any light. That near-monochrome treatment is what makes it read gothic rather than romantic. On a round tile the bloom fills the circle edge to edge, with no border to soften it.
