The story behind this design
The flowers are drawn in two blues on white, one for the petals and a deeper one for the shadow inside each bloom, with no third color anywhere. That restriction is what gives the pattern its china-plate feeling: transferware used the same limit for the same reason. The motifs are spaced evenly rather than scattered, so a folded napkin still shows a complete flower.
