The story behind this design

The mosaic is irregular on purpose: tiles of several widths butt up against one another with no repeating unit obvious at arm's length. Small four-petal marks are worked into the gaps, so the pattern reads as geometric from across a room and as floral up close. The four blues are spaced far enough apart in tone to give the surface depth without any of them reading as a second color.
