The story behind this design

Printing a bird onto clear acrylic changes the drawing problem: there is no white behind it, so any pale area in the illustration simply becomes the drink. This blue jay is therefore built almost entirely from mid and dark tones, with the white facial markings drawn in rather than left as gaps. The crest and the barred wing are what carry the species at a glance.
