The story behind this design
The circles are drawn at three fixed sizes and allowed to overlap, so where two rings cross the color deepens and a third shape appears between them. Mid-century textile design used that trick constantly, and the blue, teal and cream palette here is pulled from the same era. Laid flat the cover looks like a page of pattern swatches rather than a single motif, which is why it carries at tablet scale.
