The story behind this design
A midi dress gives a long vertical run of fabric, and the butterflies are arranged to drift up it rather than repeat in rows: denser near the hem, thinning toward the shoulder, as though the whole swarm were rising. Wings are drawn with their undersides showing in places, which breaks the symmetry a tiled print would otherwise impose.
