The story behind this design

Cassiopeia is the easiest shape in the northern sky to find and the hardest to draw without making it look like a zigzag, so the label lets the five stars do the work: five filled dots, five hairline rules between them, and nothing else on the upper half of the jar. The date sits below in small caps, which is what makes it read as a marker of a night rather than a diagram.

Care

Trim the wick to about a quarter of an inch before every burn and stand the jar on a level, heat-resistant surface away from drafts. Let the first burn run long enough for the melted wax to reach the edge of the glass, which helps the candle burn down evenly afterwards. Keep the lit candle within sight and away from children and pets, and stop burning once about half an inch of wax is left in the jar.
