The story behind this design
Hazard signage is designed to be read fast and obeyed, which makes it very good material for a joke: the eye takes the shape seriously before the words land. This design keeps the heavy border and blunt line weight of the real thing and puts them on dark shirts, where a warning sign looks more at home than on white. Black, navy and maroon all read as backdrop rather than as color.
