The DipaliZ Cherry Patchwork Tea Towel is a printed kitchen towel laid out as a quilt block. Squares of gingham, ticking stripe and plain ground alternate across the towel, and paired cherries on their stems sit inside or across the seams between them. The story behind this design
The patchwork grid came first and the cherries were dropped in afterwards, deliberately out of register, so that a stem runs over a seam and a fruit sits half on gingham and half on plain cloth. That misalignment is what stops the design reading as printed-on graph paper. Reds stay warm rather than scarlet and the gingham is kept in a soft faded blue, so the whole thing looks like a cloth that has already been washed a hundred times.
