The story behind this design
Plaid on a knit has to be simplified, because a knitted row cannot hold the fine over-check a woven cloth manages without the pattern turning to mud. This design solves it by cutting the sett back to three bands and widening them, so the grid stays legible at the gauge the machine can actually hold. The result is closer to a blanket check than to a tartan, which suits a cardigan better anyway.
