The story behind this design
The spots are drawn as open rosettes rather than solid dots, scattered at an uneven density so no two panels of the skirt look alike. Tan and black over a sand ground keeps the pattern in its natural register instead of pushing it into neon. On a flared skirt the spots widen toward the hem, which the drawing accounts for.
