The story behind this design
A wreath is a circle, and a mug face is a circle, which is why this motif works better on drinkware than most Christmas imagery does. The pine is drawn loose and slightly uneven, the way a real door wreath is never quite symmetrical, and the baubles hang at different depths inside the ring. Keeping the middle of the wreath empty leaves the ceramic visible, so the design has a hole in it rather than a solid block of color.
