The story behind this design
Cut citrus is a gift to a pattern designer because the segments give a circle internal structure, so it never reads as a flat dot. Here the slices are scattered at two scales with the pith left pale and the flesh saturated, and a few whole fruit are tucked in to break the rhythm. On a black lid the oranges and yellows do what they do on a market stall, which is get noticed from a distance.
