The story behind this design
Putting all the color in the sleeves is an old trick from sportswear and it works for the same reason here: the front of the garment stays calm, so the wearer is not committing to a rainbow in every photograph. The bands are stacked horizontally down each arm at even depths, which reads as intentional rather than as leftover yarn. Light blue was chosen for the body because it belongs to the same cool half of the spectrum as the top of the sleeve.
