The story behind this design
The color fields were laid down first and the lines drawn afterwards without following their edges, which is why the drawing and the color never quite align. That misregistration is deliberate and is the whole character of the piece. It was tested on athletic heather first, because a mottled shirt is the hardest ground for a design with soft edges.
