The story behind this design
The stripes are cut at a steady angle and vary in width, so the eye reads a rhythm rather than a ruled grid. Reds, oranges, greens and blues sit side by side at full strength with no neutral between them, which is what makes the case readable from the far end of a carousel. Turned on its side the bands run the other way, and the pattern still works.
