The story behind this design
Cow markings are the largest-scale animal pattern there is, which makes them a gamble on something as small as a hat: get the patches wrong and it reads as ink spilled on fabric. Here they are sized so that two or three land on the crown and one wraps the brim, which is just enough for the eye to complete the pattern.
