The story behind this design
A crest has to hold a name without being overwhelmed by it, so the shape here is built as a frame first and an ornament second: an upright shield outline, a pair of flanking scrolls, and a banded field left open across the middle. The gold does the structure and the silver picks out the flourishes, which keeps the two metals from competing. Everything outside the crest is left dark and empty on purpose.
