The story behind this design

Script lettering has to be drawn, not typed, when there is only one word on the shirt: the connecting strokes between the letters are where the character lives, and here they are kept long and low so the word reads as written by hand. The tail of the final a is extended under the whole word, which gives it an underline it did not need to be given separately. On Terracotta the ink sits close to the cloth in tone, which is the quietest of the four combinations.
