The story behind this design
The artichoke is a strange thing to draw. It is mostly geometry, a spiral of overlapping scales that tightens toward the middle, and the temptation is to tidy it into a pattern. This drawing keeps the irregularity instead, because that is what makes it read as a vegetable somebody actually cooked rather than a motif somebody traced.
