The story behind this design
Each dog gets one expression and one word, which is the whole comic logic of the pattern: a begging face reads please, a dog hunched over a bone reads mine, one mid-leap reads whee. The drawing is reduced to a few strokes per animal so the captions do the characterization. Yellow ground keeps the whole thing cheerful rather than wry.
