About This Item
The DipaliZ Space Astronaut Placemat is a single table placemat made from 100% cotton and printed with an astronaut floating in space. The mat measures 18 inches by 14 inches, enough to hold a dinner plate and a glass without crowding. It is a double-sided piece with the print on one face, so the reverse gives a plain surface when a quieter table is wanted. Cotton means it launders like any other table linen rather than needing special handling.

The story behind this design
An astronaut is an odd thing to put under a dinner plate, and that is the appeal. The figure is drawn small against a deep field, tethered to nothing, so the placemat reads as a window rather than a pattern. Setting it on a table turns an ordinary meal into something faintly absurd, which is exactly the effect a child, or an adult who likes space, tends to enjoy.
