The story behind this design
A stein has far more surface than a mug and a much deeper curve, so a design that works on an 11 oz body looks sparse here. The ornaments were therefore scaled up and spaced to wrap the full circumference, with the gold trim acting as a top and bottom border that contains them. The result reads as a single banded scene rather than a motif applied to a large object, which is the difference between a stein and an enlarged mug.
