The story behind this design
The fish are drawn as individuals rather than a school — different species, different sizes, each one facing where it likes — so the bed never resolves into a direction. Blue carries the water, and the fish are allowed colors water does not have, which is how the design stays cheerful instead of documentary. Starfish are dropped low in the composition to give the eye somewhere to rest.
