The story behind this design
Where a botanical study wants accuracy, this one wants color: the blooms are laid down in loose wet-edged shapes that bleed into one another instead of being outlined. Petals overlap without a clean boundary, so the eye reads a bunch rather than counting flowers. Against maroon and military green the warm blooms turn almost tapestry-like, which is why those two colorways feel quite different from the pale ones.
