The story behind this design
This painting works at the quiet end of the palette — pale lilac, buttermilk, a washed-out rose — with the strongest value in the picture no darker than a mid tone. The flowers are left unfinished at the edges, so they dissolve into the background rather than sitting on it. In a small bathroom that softness does more than a bold pattern would, because the mat stops competing with the tiles.
