The story behind this design
The stripes run on a diagonal rather than down the leg, which is the one decision that makes this design rather than a default. Width varies just enough that the eye never locks onto a repeat, and the three values are spaced far apart so the pattern stays legible in low light. On a relaxed-fit leg the diagonals break at the knee, and the design was drawn expecting that.
