The story behind this design
Open lotus forms dominate this lid, drawn large enough that two or three blooms fill the whole surface. The paint is laid in thin washes of blush, pale apricot and dusty lilac, with the petal edges left to bleed rather than outlined. Nothing is saturated, and that restraint is the point: the design reads as a page from a watercolor sketchbook rather than a print.
