The story behind this design
A fox is almost all silhouette - the ears, the muzzle, the tail - which is why it survives being printed small on a sandal footbed where most animals would turn to mush. The russet reads against a pale footbed better than against the black straps, so the drawing is placed where the foot does not sit, and you see it as the sandal comes off.
