About This Item
The DipaliZ Rose Shrub Placemat is a cotton table mat printed with a flowering rose shrub. The mat measures 18 inches by 14 inches and is double sided, with the artwork on one face. The design is a single composed painting rather than a repeating pattern, so the shrub sits within the rectangle the way a picture would. Cotton keeps the mat soft on a table surface and easy to launder after a meal.

The story behind this design
The shrub is painted as a whole plant rather than a cut stem, with roses at different stages on the same branch and yellow lighting the open ones from within. Leaves are left rough and slightly transparent, which gives the arrangement air instead of the density most floral textiles have. Under a plate, only fragments of the painting show at a time, and that partial view is part of the design's pleasure.
