The story behind this design

Drawn for a dark shirt from the start, this sunflower keeps its petals bold and its outlines heavy so the yellow does not get swallowed by the black cotton. The seed head is rendered as a flat disc of texture rather than a shaded dome, which keeps the whole flower reading as graphic rather than botanical. On dark heather the grey flecks in the cloth show through the lighter passages and soften it slightly.
