The story behind this design
A wok over high heat throws flame, and the design treats that flame as the dragon: the fire curls up out of the pan and becomes the body of the animal. Keeping the drawing to a few heavy strokes lets it survive on a dark apron, where fine detail would disappear. The mood is loud and a little showy, drawn for the cook who likes the theatre of high-heat cooking.
