The story behind this design
The floral is arranged as a loose garland running diagonally across the mat, which is the layout that survives a plate being set down in the middle. Colors are kept in the warm half of the wheel, coral through to a soft gold, with green used only in the leaves. It is a design that assumes the mat will be partly covered and still has to look considered.
