The story behind this design
A single continuous fishing line does all the drawing here: it descends from a rod at the shoulder, loops into the word Liberty in cursive, and ends at a hook. Because one unbroken stroke forms both the object and the lettering, nothing in the composition has to be outlined twice. The line is printed in a deep navy and the hook is the only other element, which keeps the whole piece airy on pale cloth.
