The story behind this design

The flowers are drawn large enough that a single bloom can span a panel of the skirt, which is unusual on a garment this short and is what gives the dress its force. Petals are laid in flat color with a darker outline rather than shaded, closer to a poster than to a watercolor. The capri blue between them is left generous so the print does not become solid.
