The story behind this design
Cherry blossom is painted rather than drawn here, which matters on a clock face: watercolor lets the petals fade out where the branch leaves the frame, so the design never looks cut off at the edge. The branches enter from two sides and stop short of the middle, leaving the hands a clear field. Pinks are kept in the range a real blossom passes through, from near-white at the outer petals to a deeper rose at the calyx.
