The story behind this design
Daisies on black are a deliberate inversion: the flower is usually shown on white or on green, and dropping it onto a dark ground makes the white petals read almost as light rather than pigment. The heads are scattered at different scales and angles rather than arranged in a repeat, so the 17 inch sleeve shows a wider field of them than the 7 inch. The yellow centers are the only warm color in the design.
