The story behind this design
Pastels lose their shape on a soft surface, because there is no strong contrast to hold an edge together once the pile starts scattering light. The flowers here are therefore drawn with a slightly darker line around the petals than the palette would suggest, which is invisible as a line and does the work of keeping the blooms legible from across a room.
