The story behind this design
Watercolor on this scale is a question of restraint: the blooms are suggested with two or three wet strokes each, and the paper white is left to do the work of highlights. Pigment pools and darkens where the strokes meet, which is the only shading in the piece. No flower is drawn in full, which is why it reads as an impression of a bunch rather than a botanical study.
