The story behind this design
The flowers are drawn the way a nineteenth century plant plate would draw them: outline first, color laid in flat behind it, and the stem cut off cleanly at the bottom of the frame rather than fading out. Muted rose and sage keep it from looking like a modern floral, and the fine linework survives being wrapped around a curved steel surface, which heavier illustration does not.
