The story behind this design
This is a single scene rather than a pattern, so trees recede into depth across the rug instead of repeating edge to edge. Painting it in layered greens with mist between the trunks gives the illusion of distance even when the rug is looked at from directly above. The lower third is kept darker and simpler, which is the part that takes the most footfall and shows the most wear.
