The story behind this design
A fox is drawn standing rather than curled, head turned over its shoulder, with a few sprigs of grass at its feet and nothing else on the cloth. The russet coat is worked up in two tones so the brush and the body read separately. Standing upright the figure fills more of the napkin than a curled pose would, so it still shows when the cloth is folded into thirds.
